The City's Goodnight

The air outside was cool and heavenly compared to the stuffy warm house as she stepped outside onto the pavement, still warm from the sun that had set hours ago.  The city lights stood out like they often do when you are somewhere with a view over looking the city.  It looked like some one had decorated the ground like they would a Christmas tree.  Some lights moved on roads giving the impression of being busy with something important.  Others flashes as if they were constantly coming up with ideas they never did anything with.  While still others stood still as if they had decided not to move and face whatever comes their way, even the end of the world  Each having something to admire, even though they be extremely different.

Lights in the sky tell of airplanes getting ready to land for the night and get some shut eye.  There was no moon to govern the stars that night and very few stars shined bright enough to be seen.  That night the stars seemed to be standing tall as they all were very proud of something which we humans can only wonder as to what it may be.

The crickets chirped there good nights that never seem to end.  Dogs barked their dismay that the sun had gone to bed and so must they.  The gentle swish of traffic played a lullaby , as a train whistle blows annocing its long journey through the dark.  Two cats swarm her at her feet asking for a bed time story.  She sees no reason reason to say no, so she sits down and starts with the words a lot of bedtime stories start with, "Once upon a time".  As overhead a satellite slowly drifts by as if he was the night watchman of the city and he was just passing by to make sure all was okay.

The Secret Meeting

The sun had set when Silas slowly sneaked to the back of the house.  His paws made no sound on the hard dirt ground.  The person he was to meet had not yet arrived so he stopped for a drink from the watering can.  He was just finishing up when she came out.  The screen door squeaked and a tall blond girl stepped out.  At first he had doubts about this meeting and started to run but her soft sweet voice brought him back and he ran to her.  She knelt down and welcomed him with a scratch behind the ears.  He enjoyed it for a second than ran away a few steps as if he had guilt.  But he did not go far before he flung his guilt away and enjoyed the secret meeting.  She scratched in all the right places and stoked his long silky fur.  As he purred, content to have the attention he desided at last.

It is very well known that anything good can never seem to last long, and so it was with this meeting.  For they had only enjoyed each others company for a few minutes when Thomas came around the corner and saw it all.  He could not stand it and went after Silas, hissing.  Not wishing to fight with his friend Silas ran off and Tomas trotted over to the girl with the most pleasant smile, ready for the attention he deserves and craves.  The girl laughed and gave him the attention for a few minutes before saying good night and going back inside.

Hello World

So if you're reading this you might not be to sure what this blog is about.   I mean whats up with a title like "The City Orchard"?  Well I will get to that in a moment but first I have created this blog to practice my writing skills, and to find out people's response to what I write.  So this can be seen as my experiment.  There is no topic I am going to cover but instead it is going to be a location.  The City Orchard is what I call the place that happens to be my home.  It is not a real orchard but there are a lot of trees so that is where the orchard part comes from.  The city part comes from the fact that my house is on a hill that looks over my home city.  So now you know the meaning behind the name.  As to what I will be writing, they will only be short little snip-its of what happens around here with three cats, a heard of deer, a raccoon or two, stray dogs that wander in, and other animals.  All of it will be loosely based on reality but do not be surprised if animals start talking because it is only loosely based on reality.  And now to rap up this introduction that has been poorly written, I hope you enjoy what I write and comments made to correct my mistakes are always welcome because I know my grammar is horrible. Enjoy
